During World War II, it was the cradle of the nation's aircraft development and production, and following that, the aerospace industry.

It has had songs written about it, jokes made about it, and stories told about it.  Defining it precisely is difficult and summarizing its importance in American — and world — culture is near impossible.

It is neatly separated from the rest of Los Angeles by the ridgetop Mulholland Highway.  But while it may share the same municipal government, life is certainly different NORTH OF MULHOLLAND.
